Ray Charles may be gone but he's not forgotten.
Very soon his hometown
of Albany Georgia will have a five acre park with Ray sitting in the middle,
playing his piano.
Artist Andy Davis was commissioned to do the huge
statue of Ray Charles for the park. He knew he wanted to also include artists
from the Academy for the Blind in Macon.
When the sculpture is done and
in place, visitors to the park will not only see the master musician in the
center, they will also stroll on sidewalks that look like piano
keys.
Davis' helpers on the statue cannot see, but they have heard the
music of Ray Charles and know this Georgian evoked feelings in all of
us.
They want his statue to make all of us remember again, just that old
sweet song keeps Ray Charles and Georgia on our minds.
